Bug's fuel tank is getting cleaned

How about an update on the WyoLook Bug?!

It's been a while since I've had a chance to work on her, but I have something to share today! I had some time this afternoon after running errands, so I grabbed the Bug's fuel tank, put it in a plastic trash bag (don't need gasoline fumes stinking up the Flex), and drove over to Laramie Radiator Works here in town.

A few months ago, I had called over there and inquired if they did indeed hot tank fuel tanks (most radiator shops do) and what was the going charge for it. I had already pulled the tank and drained the remaining fuel out of it. It had been out long enough that the gas fume smell was no longer strong.

The gentleman who helped me was very nice and with no clue from me, he correctly identified the gas tank from a Volkswagen. I was impressed!

As he was writing down my information, he mentioned that the hot tank process was going to strip the old paint off. I knew this from the last time I had done this, and knowing that we were heading into the cold time of the year here, I asked him for any suggestions or recommendations for refinishing the tank. He mentioned that they usually do a spray-on bed liner, like the type you see done in a truck bed, and that it would cost me $30 for the paint and to have them spray it on. That seemed like a good idea and asked him to do that.

The tank should be done some time next week, so I'm looking forward to seeing the final product!

I got home from the radiator shop and took a look at the Bug's trunk. My next project, which will have to be done before the fuel tank can go in, will be to clean the trunk and get the paint cleaned up. I'm hoping that the weather is warm enough next week so I can start work on it!
