Happy (half) birthday to me!
About a week ago, a friend on Facebook mentioned that they were celebrating their "half" birthday. For those of you who's birthdays are around the holiday season (Christmas, New Years, etc.) you know that all too often your birthday is overlooked or friends are unable to share a celebration because their time is committed to family and professional celebrations.
For me, my birthday occurs in the five days between Christmas and New Years. Growing up, most of my friends weren't around for a birthday celebration. Many were out of town, visiting family and friends with their parents and siblings. As a result, you soon accept that your birthdays aren't going to have the same attendance as friends who's birthdays don't coincide with major holidays.
For the last couple of years, I've read about people who are reclaiming their birthdays by celebrating their "half birthdays". In my case, my half birthday was June 30th. Since it was so close, I decided that this year I would celebrate my 49.5th birthday.Well here's to my next half birthday!
