So excited to announce a new project that is coming together! A small group of local VW fans have band together to help start a new VW club here in Laramie WY!! Thin Air Dub Club !!
Five years ago, when it became obvious that my wife and I were going to be moving from California to Wyoming, I put a lot of thought into my VW hobby. I thought about how I didn't know anyone in Laramie, let alone knew anyone into classic VWs.
One of the best things about being involved in the classic VW hobby is the people. I've met so many great people who share the passion of the German marque. As you meet VW people, you gain friends, friends who are always willing to help and who will need help. You build a community that supports itself and grows as others see the fun.
So I sought out to find out if there was such a community out there. I knew from my two month summer stay in 2013 that there weren't many VWs in Laramie, so I knew it was going to take me finding any fellow VW fans and helping to foster and grow the community I wanted.
About six months after moving my wife found a VW club based out of Cheyenne. If you know Wyoming geography, you know that Cheyenne is only a 45-50 minute drive from Laramie. So in 2017 I became a member of the Wyoming Aircooled VW Club. I started to develop friendships with my fellow club members, but most of them lived in Cheyenne.
The reason I share this is the fact that my search was still going because of one obstacle: the 8600 foot mountain pass between the cities and the rather extreme winter weather. Because of there two factors, driving out to Cheyenne, especially in the evening during the dead of winter, was not a good idea. I wanted to establish that kind of community here in Laramie.
As I got to know people in the club, I discovered that there were two members that lived here in Laramie! So I contacted them and when the weather warmed up in late spring 2019, we organized a weekly get together at a few local hangouts. We were getting to know each other and letting the community know that we were building a community.
We gathered a few new people on social media primarily Facebook and Instagram. So when the pandemic started earlier this year, I felt it was time to start investing the time to organize our group to become a club. That is when the Thin Air Dub Club was created!
So during this pandemic, we've decided on the club name and created the club logo. We have also organized a our inaugural club meeting with cruise around the city. I am so excited for the possibilities of this community in Laramie!
