Sunny days and cool pools

Last week the area I live in was having a typical cool May spell. It was cool enough that even though I am a polar bear, I needed to wear one of my favorite hoodie sweatshirts in order to keep warm. Of course this is southern California, so the temperature wasn't too cold, as I was also wearing shorts and my TYR swim sandals.

Contrast that weather with today. The forecast for this week is going to see the thermometer break into the 100°F range! Of course this isn't "normal" for May, but nonetheless, we will be dealing with the heat as best we can.

As for tonight's workout, Coach David had sprinting on his mind this evening. We ended doing a sprint set of 25s, a sprint set of 50s, and a sprint set of 100s. Much to my approval, some of these sets included stroke changes, so I was able to get some breaststroke work in there. My lanemate Suzie and I ended the evening with a 100 yd freestyle for time. Considering it was done from in the pool and after a good workout, I was pleased with my 1:58.00 time. I felt really strong for the first 50, but I was experiencing some fatigue as I progressed into the third lap. I was really kicking hard and I could feel it in my calves as they ached for relief from this. I guess I need to get some kick sets thrown into our workout.
