A bit of history is needed here so you can get an understanding of this news. So pull up a comfy chair, as we're going to have storytime.
A few years before I moved to Laramie, the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site, started decorating the north side of their public parking lot with holiday lights in the trees and along the fences. In 2015, while I was visiting my wife Renee in Laramie (this was before I moved up here), we went and visited the holiday light show that was created at the Albany County Courthouse building, What made this light show pretty fun was the fact the lights flashed to the music that was being broadcast over a FM transmitter.
Renee did some inquiring at the courthouse about the light show, specifically wanting to know what was required to get the lights to work with the music, and be broadcast to FM radios. She gathered enough information that after I moved out there, she asked me to look into what it would require to do a similar show with the site's holiday light display. She gave me the name of the company that made the equipment the courthouse was using.
I spent approximately a month doing my research, along with an analysis of the site's layout, and put together my recommendation to the site's superintendent. The WTPSHS Superintendent and the site's head of maintenance felt this was doable, so they promptly ordered the equipment so that it would arrive before the light show set up would start. Since the holiday season of 2016, WTPSHS and I have worked together to bring this show to the community. This was the start of the "Holiday Music & Light Show" at WTPSHS.
A few years ago, the site introduced a new event in response to a common request they were getting: to be able to work through the site and see the lights from there. The event became known as the Holiday Light Trail. This year the site will be open for three nights where, for the price of regular admission, the public can walk amongst the light decorations, check out the warden's house decked out in period correct holiday decoration, and enjoy holiday music. Its been a very popular event since its inception.
Now I can share the news I initially wanted to share. The 2021 show went live with almost no issues this year. The site only experienced one type of issue with the show this year: squirrels are eating on the light strings! Apparently these critters don't appreciate having their home lit up when they are trying to sleep!!
If you live in Laramie, or any of the surrounding areas, I hope that you will be able to come by some evening and give the show a watch. I think it will put you into the holiday spirit. With the state of the world, we all need something great to warm our souls!
