I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. I hope you had a great time with family and friends, celebrating the holiday of your choice. For my family, the 2021 holiday season was a pretty quiet one, something that we needed.
Now that we are heading towards the New Year, we first encounter another important day, at least for me. This coming Thursday is my birthday and not just any ordinary birthday, this year I will be transitioning to a new decade. This will be the big 5-0 for me.
Rather than talking about what I am looking forwards to next year (I'm going to be doing that next week with a look back at 2021), I thought I'd reflect on my 40s and where my life has led me in the last ten years.
So much has happened in the last ten years!
What's happened in the last ten years of my life? So much! Let's start with a list of stuff:
- Divorce finalized with my first marriage
- Start swimming again and help to create a masters team
- volunteered as assistant coach for high school girls water polo and boys/girls swimming
- met and married my wife
- welcomed our first grandchild
- went back to school and finished my B.A. degree
- moved to Wyoming
- took next step with career with ACSD#1
- lost over 120 lbs in body weight
- got back into VW scene by starting new VW club.
You can see this last decade has been quite an action packed time period. As I look back on the events of my 40s, it was really my decade to do some self discovery and make some positive changes to how I was living this life. I was leaving my failed marriage and knowing that I didn't want to continue to live my life how I had been previously.
A big first step in reclaiming my happiness was to embrace a healthier life. A life of better eating, more activity, and getting in touch with the sports of my heart. That first would help me to establish some positive changes in my daily life and would eventually lead me to losing 120 lbs! I'm not quite done with that journey, but I'm proud of how far I've come so far!
The next big event was meeting Renee in 2012 and the things that we've done in the subsequent time. We've built quite a life together and journeyed to so many great places. She was also the one that encouraged and supported me to go back to college to finish my bachelor's degree. I don't know where my life would be without her by my side.
With these changes, I've gained the opportunity to once again participate in my hobbies. The move to Wyoming meant that I was leaving a lot of friends and resources back in California, but it's afforded me the opportunity to meet new friends with mutually shared interests.
Well, I'm going to wrap this up now. Looking forward to the next ten years, I hope that it continues to get better. Things are finally going good!
