Tomorrow I will be doing something that I thought I'd never do: I am assuming the position of president of the Wyoming Territorial Park Historic Association (WTPHA)! At the January 2021 board meeting, I was confirmed to become the next president, so tomorrow's meeting will be my first full meeting as the president!
In February 2018, I joined the Wyoming Territorial Park Historic Association. The WTPHA is the 'friends group' for my wife's work, the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site (WTPSHS). The WTPHA is a group of community members who want to support the WTPSHS in meeting its goals. We assist with funding for educational programs, building restoration and maintenace, and many other areas.
When I joined the WTPHA in 2018, it was my intention to get more involved in the community, get to know more people in my city, and to deepen my involvement with this historic site. In the last three years, I've gotten to know folks who share my admiration of the Prison and its rich history. So when the WTPHA president made the statement that he wanted to make 2020 his last year as president, I contemplated the idea of stepping in. I spent some time contemplating it and talking to my wife about it. Our officers are usually voted upon at our first meeting of the new year, so via email with the persident, that I had decided that I would 'throw my hat in' for the role.
For the January 2021 meeting, I had offered to host the meeting on Zoom. We had a few fellow board members who had expressed their inability to attend an in-person meeting. Thanks to my work, I have a premium Zoom account, so I scheduled the Zoom meeting. It was so great to hear and see everyone, but still be safe. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed upon that I was going to be the new president of the WTPHA!
Right now I'm working on familiarizing myself with the responsibilities and duties of the office. Once I get settled in, I hope to work on implementing a few ideas I have had running through my head. You can be sure that as these ideas come to fruition, I will be sharing them with you!
