Learning to eat a new way

Back before the Christmas holiday, I shared a post that I was undergoing a minor outpatient procedure in order to address some stomach issues I've been experiencing. The good news is that the procedure didn't find any major issues with my stomach; everything looked healthy. Unfortunately it didn't help me to understand the cause of those issues. Working with my primary care doctor and playing with my diet, we are currently following an avenue that might shed some light on one source: gluten intolerance.

In the months since I did that procedure, I've tried to eliminate gluten from my diet. This is a task that easier said that done. It isn't until you've determined that wheat products are the source of discomfort that you realize how commonly wheat is used in our foods, especially prepared or processed foods. Anything made with "flour" (a common synonym for wheat flour), like pastas, breads, and even soy sauce.

At this point, I am in the learning phase of what is safe for me, and then coming up with meal ideas. I guess by omitting the common wheat products, it is helping to cut down on my carbohydrates. Of course, I am a big fan of breads and pastas, so I'm exploring gluten-free alternatives, so I can at least curb those desires for what I could eat before.

In the long run, I'm hoping that I will adopt a healthy diet that makes me feel better and gives my body the fuel to achieve my health and athletic goals.
