Meet the newest family member, Otto!

A few weeks ago I shared that we lost a dear member of our family, our beloved twelve year old Dachshund Prada. As any dog owner will tell, these canines make their way into your heart and they become a loved member of the family.

It has been a couple of weeks since we lost Prada, and both Greta (our younger Dachshund) and the human members were feeling like something was missing. This last weekend my wife Renee suggested that we head over to the pet shop in Cheyenne where we got Greta, Frontier Pet. I figured it would be nice to head over to the mall, get a poke bowl for dinner, and check out the puppies, what was the worst that could happen, am I right? Little did I know what was going to happen that night!

There were a couple Dachshund puppies available, but this guy really spoke to us. (Yes we've become Dachshund people.) He is a red medium length hair and he's just a cutie! Renee and my step-daughter both held him and played with him in the shop's play area. He wasn't too sure about these strangers at first, but eventually he started exploring and getting to know everyone.

After playing with him for about half an hour, we made the decision that this guy needed to be a part of the family. It has become our tradition that our Dachshunds are given German names, so Renee suggested that this pup's name should be Otto. So say Hi to Otto Slider! We got a bunch of doggy necessities with him, some of which we already had because this wasn't our first rodeo with Dachshunds! During the drive home, Renee took this photo of her and the new puppy. Aren't they a cute pair?!

For the last two days, Otto is slowly getting acquainted with his new home and his new family. He is learning our routines for feeding and behaviour. Greta and him are working on how things are going to with both of them. So far, so good for them!

Having another puppy in the house is going to be some work, but I'm optimistic that he will get the hang of the household and he will soon feel welcome in his new home!
