A Slider boys hang out!

As the weather warms up here in Wyoming, getting to spend a weekend day hanging out with my brother is always a treat. For the last six months or so, the weather up here is just too cold to go to a car show or just work out in the garage. At least my garage is WAY TOO COLD!

So when the weather warms up, I get excited to be able to work outside. The weather last week was unseasonably warm, so I took advantage of the weather to drive down to Fort Collins and spend the day with my brother Chris.

We started off the day taking his latest acquisition, his '67 VW Bug, out to the Fort Collins Cars & Coffee get together close by his home. This was the first time his Bug has been to an event, so this was his maiden voyage. It felt so great to be riding in a Bug again!

The event was well underway by the team we rolled in. It was a free event, but they were collecting donations at the entrance, so we chipped in some money for the local charity. As we looked for a place to park, we saw some interesting cars there!

As we walked around, we discovered two other air-cooled VWs there: the Karmann Ghia we parked next too, and a pretty nice custom '60 ragtop Bug. They were both very cool cars and it was great to know that we weren't the only air-cooled VW enthusiasts there!

As the car show was wrapping up, we headed back to Chris's house. I had brought my tri-bike with me, as the second half of our day included a visit to the Fort Collins Bike Co-op! It was time to do some wrenching on bicycles!

My goal for the visit to the co-op was to finish up my pre-COVID19 project: my 1998 Cannondale Multisport 1000 tri-bike. The goal was to finally wrap up the work it needed and get the bike road worthy for the summer. She didn't need much, but having a stand and a workbench stocked with professional grade bike tools makes the job much easier and enjoyable!

With assistance from Chris, I replaced the brake hoods, taped the handlebars, and checked all of the cable adjustments. The final thing that needed looked at was checking the wheels for straightness. The front wheel looked good, but it looked like the rear wheel was slightly out of true. I took the wheel off and had Chris look at on the truing stand. What we discovered is the wheel had a flat spot: yes it was dented and is going to need to be replaced. I guess I'm in the market for a new 650c rear wheel!

At the end of the day, I headed home to Laramie. I checked the mail when I got home and had a pleasant surprise waiting for me! The t-shirt and sticker I had ordered from "Let's Talk Dubs" podcast. For those VW nuts out there, this is a great podcast to follow!
