My new home!

This week I did something that I thought I never would: I moved out of California. Yes I am no longer in sunny southern California. I now call Laramie, Wyoming home. Both my career and my wife's career paths have led us to this move north.

Of course I know what your next question is: are you going to keep swimming? The answer to that question is a resounding YES!

My wife attended the University of Wyoming as she completed her coursework and research for a Master's degree, so I was lucky enough to spend summer vacations in Laramie. One thing that I did was to investigate my swimming options. I discovered that the Laramie community has an 8 lane SCY indoor pool in their Recreation Center that is open year round for public use.

I spent the summer of 2013 swimming at this pool and really enjoyed it. My hope is that as I do my swimming that I meet some other like-minded swimmers and maybe gain a few fellow USMS swimmers that would want to compete at the USMS meets in Colorado.

As for the pool itself, you can see in the photo below that is a nice pool with flags and starting blocks. The times I attended the lane lines were usually in, so it was a good experience. Of course the difficulty I had swimming that summer was adjusting to the altitude. If you weren't aware, Laramie is located at an altitude of 7200 feet! That's a good 2,000 feet above a mile. It will take a week or a two for my body to adjust to the altitude, but like that swimmer, it will happen and I will be back to my usual swim skills.

I am really excited about the future holds for me up here in Laramie! Stay tuned for my next post!
