As I was browsing the web at lunch today, I came across an NBC Nightly News video about Mirna Valerio. Mirna blogs about her journey to becoming healthier through her love of running. Her blog, titled "Fat Girl Running",
As I watched the news video, I saw that Mirna was doing what I am attempting to do: to use her love of an activity as the foundation to becoming healthier and using her blog to share that journey.
Like myself, Mirna isn't the stereotypical athlete in her sport. We are both "larger" individuals, participating in sports that tend to be almost exclusively slender body types. For swimming, you need only look at the Olympics or even a local high school swim team to see the slim and trim bodies that exemplify the swimmer body. Of course this comes from many hours of pool time, doing very challenging workouts. The amount of calories that a top level swimmer burns in a day can be mind blowing.
Anyways, as I read through Mirna's very honest posts about herself and her experiences, I knew that my commitment to making my journey wasn't the only one going on. Her blog made me really appreciate that I'm not the only one doing this.
