Last swim with Paulene before she leaves

This marks my Fontana Flyers teammate Paulene's last swim workout before she leaves for the Philippines tomorrow. Paulene is heading there in order to compete in the IRONMAN 70.3 Philippines triathlon in the city of Cebu. Paulene is one of only eleven American women who are competing at this race. We wish her the best and hope she does well in Cebu!

As for my workout, I definitely lucked out today, as I ended up having a whole lane to myself for most of the day! Today I did stroke work in all of the strokes, yes, including butterfly. As much as I struggle with butterfly, I even did a set of butterfly. My goal since I started swimming Masters has been to be proficient in doing the individual medley (I.M.) events. Currently I can do the 100 I.M., but thanks to my weakness in butterfly, I an unable to do the 200 or 400 I.M. without probably dying on the butterfly. I can do the 25 butterfly with a reasonable technique, but I am totally spent. Doing any more is going to cause my stroke to degrade into a horrible flaying of arms. It isn't a pretty sight!!

Today's workout came out to a total of 2,750 yards, and that places my Go The Distance total to 71.14 miles for 2014.  I'm going to keep up these morning swims for the remainder of summer break and maybe I'll reach the 100 mile milestone before work starts up again!
