Making the best of set backs

Almost a month, I made the decision to commit to competing again in USMS (United State Masters Swimming) meets. The meets would give me something to train on and to focus on through this year and goals to meet in 2018. I am really excited about the decision and I know the obstacles are going to be challenging.

The first challenge after making the decision? I get sick and I'm relegated to bed and the couch for five days. Yep, a wasted week with a fever, aching muscles, and the dreaded diarrhea. So I had to wait a week after I got well to get back into the water. A set back, but it happens.

So the day before I could get back into the water, I seem to contract ANOTHER stomach bug, though this time it only lasted a day. That's ANOTHER week (yep..) out of the pool. I'm hoping that I don't contract another bug, as this upcoming week will be my chance to get back in the pool.

During my first week quarantine from the pool, I did get a chance to put in some time at the bike co-op. Wednesday evening I started on a new project for a retail bike: a 1987 Bridgestone T-700. This particular T-700 has a few upgrades, including a carbon fork, so it should be a nice bike when it is done. Overall the T-700 is in great shape, so it should be an easy restoration and it should sell pretty easily in the co-op's showroom.

The following Saturday I made the drive back down to the co-op, but this time I was working on a bike from my stable. Last year we found a 2000 Trek Navigator 200 that my wife fell in love with. Shortly after getting it back home, winter settled in. I couldn't make the trip down the mountain as often as I would have liked to work on it at the co-op.

Since the  snow has melted here in Wyoming and the weather is warmer, I am going all out to get the Navigator running. Overall she was in great shape, but even just sitting in the garage can cause issues. I stripped her down to the frame, detailed everything, and am now methodically putting her back together and making sure she run runs like a champ. Looking forward to the day when I see the big smile on my wife's face as we ride our bikes.
