Wrenching on my wife's 1996 Trek 930 SHX

Yesterday my wife says that she wants to do a bike ride on the Laramie River Bike Trail on her day off on Sunday. This is a short walking/cycling trail on the west side of Laramie but a good place for her to start her cycling.

Last fall we had purchased a 1997 Trek 930 SHX for her, but I hadn't gotten around to giving the bike a good cleaning, checking the brakes and drivetrain, and making sure it is ready to ride. Luckily for me, I have weekends off, so I spent the beautiful day with this beauty on my workstand.

I spent the afternoon cleaning and detailing her bike. I have to say it was an enjoyable time, even though I have to admit that it is obvious that I'm going to need to invest some better cleaning implements and supplies. A spray bottle of Simple Green, a variety of soft (non-scratchinng) cleaning cloths, and an assortment of brushes will have to be added to the UberClydesdale garage soon, at least before I detail another bike.

Here's the final result. The old racer me couldn't let the reflectors stay, so I jettisoned the pedal reflectors, wheel reflectors, handlebar reflector, and the seat reflector. It looks so much better and I know my wife will agree!

I hope that this beautiful weather sticks around for tomorrow, as we are looking forward to getting a ride on the Laramie River Bike Trail!

Edit: The weather took a turn last night and we ended up not being able to go for the ride. That's life in Wyoming!
