Baby it is cold outside!!

Ever since I moved to Wyoming, I've been waiting for the legendary cold weather. Let me correct that, I was dreading that cold weather. Until today the weather hasn't been bad at all, with lows in the single digits. Last night that all changed!

This screenshot, taken from my Nexus 6, shows just how low it got last night. That is correct, it got to -31°F, and factoring in the wind chill, it was at -50°F!! Even though our home is insulated and heated, just seeing that  -31°F made getting out of bed this morning quite difficult, as you can imagine!

Most everyone will agree that -31°F is cold, even those friends and family in the north. I know you are asking yourself, "So how was it Tom?!" As a guy who grew up and lived in balmy southern California for his life, I can honestly say it isn't as bad as I had anticipated.

Sure it was cold, no doubt about, but I tried to be as prepared as I could. I had on a pair of waterproof boots, denim pants, t-shirt, hoodie, light jacket, scarf, beanie, and gloves to protect my valuable digits. Besides clothing, the other thing I've learned is that you don't spend any more time outside unless you absolutely must. The cold temperatures even made breathing difficult, as inhaling hurt and causes me to cough.

Life in Wyoming is markedly different from life in southern California. Things like "winter wardrobe" meant little to me in southern California: my winter wardrobe was taking my hoodies out the hallway closet, now it is jackets, parkas, beanies, scarfs, and gloves. Heck, I may have to invest in a balaclava to protect my ears and cheeks.

To my family and friends out there, we are doing well up here in Wyoming, in spite of the cold! --Tom
