The Orange Crate Welcome to our webpage dedicated to the Slider dune buggy, nicknamed the "Orange Crate".

It's a long and involved process to build a car from scratch from the ground up. It's even more difficult when the money isn't always available. Determination and patience can overcome obstacles; our project buggy is a perfect example of that.

We are going to be publishing information here as the car progresses. You can see the issues we've had to deal with in the process of building this car as a quality street car.

Update: August 2005 -- Well, there isn't a whole lot to share with everyone. I'm currently working on my '69 Bug and my '70 EMPI Imp, but I thought I'd let everyone know that I haven't given up on this project. Actually, I'm making some progress on the engine. A few months ago I purchased some parts for the final engine, a 1911cc (96x66) Type 4 engine. I purchased a set of 2.0 cylinders (which I will have bored for 96mm), a 210mm flywheel, and a few other odds and ends. I hope that the upcoming year will allow me to get more work done on it. Because of the rear body, I don't know if I'll be able to convert it to upright cooling, so that decision will be made later. If I do go upright, I might just go with a NextGen (Joe Cali) style of cooling. There is a lot of overhang at the rear of the body, so the upright cooling may be too tall for the body, and no, I'm not cutting the body to fit it. :-)
