My camera
The tools behind the hobby
The camera
Almost all of the pictures you see here were taken with my own Nikon CoolPix 5700, an advanced point and shoot digital camera. (Some of these pictures may have been shot with my girlfriend's Nikon D80, my Dad's Nikon D70S or my friend Scott's Nikon D100, but 95% of them were taken with my camera.) Based on my budget and my newness to the hobby, this camera seemed like a natural. It gave me a lot of control to learn how photography in general works, but it was easy to start with and not be overwhelmed with initially.
Eventually I'd like to get an entry level Nikon D-SLR (digital SLR) camera, as it would give me the ultimate freedom, but the associated costs make that a "someday later" purchase.
Accessories
As I learned more about the camera and photography, I acquired a few accessories that make using the camera easier or give me more creative options.
- Nikon lens hood/77mm filter adaptor (Nikon # HN-CP11)
- Nikon battery pack/Hand grip (Nikon # MB-E5700)
- Hoya 77mm circular polarizing filter (Hoya # PL-CIR)
- Targus camera bag (Digital series)
- AC power adaptor (Nikon # EH-53)
I've got a shopping list of accessories that I'd like to get for this camera, like a telephoto "lens" and a wide-angle "lens" (they really aren't lenses like a film or digital SLR camera, but they are essentially magnifiers). Nikon no longer sells this model (or it's 8 megapixel sister, the CoolPix 8700), so I'd like to get these accessories while they are still available.
