Bicycling
A life on two wheels
Digging out an old ten speed that belonged to my dad was the start of my fascination with road bike racing.
I started riding that bike to swim practice, as it was a way of having some independence from my parents.
The following Christmas my parents bought me my first road bike, a Peugeot PH10LE "Tourmalet". I had a lot of problems with that clunker, but it cemented my devotion to the sport. I would later on buy a Trek 560, and then a Klein Quantum, which I built from the ground up. I participated in many organized races and rides on those bikes.
I'm currently riding a Klein Pulse Pro mountain bike and working on losing enough weight that I feel comfortable to get back on the Quantum. I really enjoy the mountain bike, but I have to admit that my true bike passion is in road bikes. I love the thrill of speed, the efficiency in transfering all of your energy in getting to your destination. I will be a very happy guy when that day comes.
(Yes, that's me on the Quantum back in high school, racing in the Fontana
Bike Race, probably 1989 or 1990.)
